First Few Days in Spain at Camp Salata

We travelled into Spain just over a week ago coming over the Pyrenees from Canet Plage, and within about 45 minutes we were across the border. It was strange as we hadn't realised we were in Spain until we saw some signs in Spanish, I was expecting to have to show passports but that didn't happen as of course the borders around Europe are mostly open now.

The weather seemed to change as we drove into Spain as it had been cloudy and misty in France but as soon as we had gone over the mountains the sun came out and the sky was blue and it was very warm.

We hadn't really made any plans as to where we should travel to once we arrived in Spain but we had heard of a place called Roses on the coast and not too far over the border so we decided to go there. A couple we had met in France had told us about the campsite they were going to so with the satnav guiding us we made for there.

We found the campsite, Salata, and parked up outside so we could look around first of all and as we were walking down to the beach area we met up with the couple we had met in France. So we decided then that we would stay here for a while and got booked in and found ourselves a nice large pitch. We were soon all sorted out, with the awning up  and ready to enjoy our stay here.

It is quite a large campsite, with a mixture of caravans and motorhomes with a number of bungalows for rent as well. There is a pool and spa area with a small shop and restaurant. It is quite busy at the weekends but during the week it is quieter.

We haven't tried the swimming pool yet but it certainly looks inviting on a hot day.
The beach is only a five minute walk from the campsite and there is a wide promenade in both directions, one way towards the town of Roses and the other way to an area known as Santa Margarida. You have to be careful walking along the promenade though as there are also plenty of runners, cyclists and skateboarders.

Another cruise ship!
There is a marina in Roses and a smaller one at Santa Margarida so with Rob being into boats of all sizes we had to have a look.

Although it cannot be seen in these photos there is snow on the mountains in the background.
The residential part of Roses climbs steeply up the hillside and there are some lovely houses up there but even with the good roads it is quite a climb up to them. It must be quite a journey every day for those that live up there.

We are enjoying walking around this area and enjoying the warm weather but we still haven't put more than our feet in the sea, maybe when it gets a few degrees warmer.
